Website Tips

  • Get a Website It may seem obvious, but the actors' website has fast become an indispensable marketing tool. Casting directors, agents and producers can access all you latest and greatest information and the click of a button, which makes it not only convenient but also CHEAP!

  • Keep It Simple, Stupid (KISS) Lots of fancy graphics, pop ups and flashes may look great, but if it takes a long time for a website to appear on screen that casting director will soon get bored and move on to the next actor in line.
  • Make it Fun On the other hand, if it's too boring it won't stand out from the crowd and you'll fade into the background just like an extra. If you want to play lead roles, make your site stand out and make it professional.
  • Research Look at other sites, not only your fellow actors but also other companies, particularly in the entertainment industry. You'll soon get a good idea what works and then you can apply it to your personal site.
  • Register a .com This may not be possible however, the reason I recommend this is that it is easy to remember and not geographically specific. Whether that director is in his office in Australia or on location in Cuba he will not have to remember which country your website is registered in order to access your details.

  • Contact Details Once again, this may seem elementary but it's surprising how often it is forgotten. Include at least an email address, it's no use being wonderful if no one can get hold of you.
  • Register with Search Engines If for some strange, unknown reason someone does forget you and what a fine actor you are (although I can't imagine why) you can register with search engines. This means that the top agent who desperately wants you on their books can type your name in and voila, a link to your website will magically appear.
  • Include Links Your colleagues and associates in the entertainment industry will greatly appreciated being directed towards other useful sites thus increasing your credibility and becoming even more wonderful (if that's possible).
  • Change Now and again it's a good idea to give your site a facelift, a little tweaking here, a little botox there will prevent it from looking old and keep you looking like the latest trendy actor to hit the scene.
  • Tell People There is no use having a fantastic site if nobody knows about it. Tell everyone and anyone who will listen, especially those in the industry and even more specifically those that can give you a job!
