Reports to: Programme Director - Jamie’s Ministry of Food The Company The Good Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organisation, recently established by the Muir Family, founders of leading electrical retailer The Good Guys. The Muirs’ created the Foundation in response to a growing concern about the health of many Australians. The Good Foundation will focus on programs that promote good health and nutrition. It first priority program is Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia. The Program – Jamie’s Ministry of Food In association with Jamie Oliver Ltd and The Good Guys, The Good Foundation plan to set up a series of Ministry of Food Centres, both permanent and roving, across Australia. These Centres will become hubs for cooking classes and demonstrations, teaching people basic cooking skills and how to cook simple and delicious meals from scratch. The program is designed to reintroduce home cooking skills into the community and provide information and advice on food, food sourcing, recipes and hygiene with the ultimate aim of helping combat the rise in obesity and diet-related disease in Australia. We believe in what we do and bring energy, focus and a ‘can-do’ attitude. We stand united in the fight against obesity. The Job The Director: Food role will be at the heart of this campaign. In conjunction with the Programme Director, the role will be key to the smooth roll-out of the initiative across the country and the direction of it going forward. The role of the Director: Food will be specifically responsible for all aspects of the project relating to food and food training. To ensure that the Food Centres and trucks are set up to provide a brilliant service to their local communities by passing on relevant cooking skills, educating people about great food, where to find it and how to cook it. The Director: Food will also have responsibility to ensure that the correct individuals are found to manage Food Centres; that the Centres are staffed to the highest standards and that the staff in the Centres are trained to the very highest standards to pass on the Ministry of Food cooking course in their communities, are well managed and well rewarded for their efforts. The Director: Food will also act as a campaigner for the cause, to the food community. The Detail The main areas of responsibility for this job are: 1. To be responsible for the set-up of each Food Centre, working with the rest of the team to ensure the site is suitable and properly equipped. 2. Is the Guardian of Jamie Oliver’s values and mission for MOFA and ensures his reputation is upheld. 3. To ensure the recruitment of excellent staff for each Food Centre who really understand and believe in the project and to ensure that those people are trained to a standard that means they’re able to provide a brilliant service to their local community. 4. To manage, support, coach and develop the staff in each of the Food Centres, ensuring they are able to provide excellent lessons based on the standard set by Jamie Oliver Ltd. 5. To be fully trained by Jamie Oliver’s Food Team in the UK and, alongside Jamie Oliver Ltd Food Team, then devise and develop a course of lessons for the Food Centres (both permanent and roving) that is applicable in the Australian market. 6. In conjunction with Programme Director, work closely with Jamie’s Campaigns Manager in the UK to share information on the progress of the campaign, to get inspiration and share ideas about how Food Centres are run in other areas and to further the campaign on both an national and international level. 7. To feedback to Jamie Oliver Ltd on course needs refinements, successes and failures etc. 8. To constantly monitor and pro-actively improve the quality and consistency of the courses provided in all the Food Centres with a real emphasis on the impact that the sessions are having on the ability of local people to understand the importance of good food and how it can be prepared simply and nutritiously. This may involve carrying out research into areas of particular interest in order to share the information locally, nationally and with Jamie’s team in the UK. 9. To promote the initiative with food producers and providers nationwide. Encourage food producers and suppliers to understand the campaign and offer practical support to the Food Centres. 10. Support Food Centre Managers to build relationships with food suppliers and producers around the sites of the Food Centres, in line with Jamie Oliver Ltd Food Ethos guidelines which promote the use of local food and suppliers where possible. 11. Ensure Jamie’s Food Ethos Guidelines are adhered to in each centre. 12. To understand the health issues of the communities around the Food Centres and across the country, in order to both build lesson plans to help deal with these issues, as well as train the staff in the Food Centres to help people deal with these issues through the food they buy and cook. 13. To work with the team to campaign at all levels, to promote the work of the Food Centres and to build their importance in their local communities, with the aim of creating a wider movement across the country to make a real change to the way the entire nation thinks about the food they buy and how to cook it. 14. To work effectively with all teams and companies to ensure consistency, efficiency, professionalism and effective communication. 15. To attend internal meetings as required by the Programme Director and provide updates on your area of responsibility. 16. To enforce and comply with all company policies and standards which are fundamental in maintaining effective performance, communication and good business reputation. 17. To enforce and comply with all Food Hygiene and Fire, Health & Safety regulations and policy, as required by law, and attend any training as required by the Company. The Person This role requires a broad range of experience, but most importantly a real passion for great food and simple cooking combined with a strong reputation for working with great produce to create excellent dishes. Experience as a chef or a senior home economist is highly desirable. This person will also need to have a real energy and commitment for what Jamie is trying to achieve through the Food Centres and will be able to inspire others to have that same enthusiasm and commitment. To fulfil the management obligations of the role, the ideal person will be commercially minded, with a strong ability to build relationships both in local communities, with food producers and suppliers. They will have a proven ability to recruit, lead, motivate and develop people at all levels, as well as a proven ability to create and deliver inspiring and effective training plans on a number of levels. As well as being very flexible in terms of working location and a willingness to travel nationally and occasionally internationally, this person will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage relationships very well. A background in corporate social responsibility or with other campaigns and previous leadership of high profile causes would be very desirable in this position.
