The Seymour Theatre Centre operates as a self-funding unit within the University of Sydney, and is a dedicated enabler of the arts. The Centre generates its revenue through arts business activity such as venue hire, arts partnerships, box office, sponsorship, catering and government/philanthropic grants and has the support of the University's Shared Services functions such as HR, Security and OH&S. The Centre is regularly hired by commercial theatre producers, subsidised theatre companies, educational institutions, independent arts organisations and music promoters and also presents a number of public lectures, functions and events generated from within the University.
The University strongly supports the future of the Seymour, and as such is seeking a General Manager to take on a pivotal leadership position, building on the Seymour’s history in the performing arts, to promote theatre, music, educational and cultural activities within the University and Sydney community. This is an outstanding opportunity to drive the success of one of Sydney's landmark performing arts venues.
Utilising your forward-thinking and strategic approach, you will develop a range of cultural and educational programs that will enhance the Centre's image and cater to multiple key stakeholders, as well as manage the Centre's facilities, staff and resources. Your ability to manage organisational change and build strategic partnerships will be essential as you build relationships with key organisations to bring work to the Seymour Centre that builds its artistic programs and profile and develops new audiences. You will negotiate with arts companies, corporate sponsors, donors and government agencies, collaborate with Artistic Directors and arrange funding and business deals.
Committed to quality customer service and client satisfaction, you will ensure the effective development of policies, systems and partnerships consistent with the needs and drivers of Centre users, government legislation and the University. Furthermore, you will deliver an efficient and effective service to the community and rally support that will ensure the future profitability of the Centre.
Your strong commitment to the promotion of performing arts and high level fundraising and development experience will see you succeed in this high-profile position. Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in business or arts management will be essential, as will your ability to inspire and influence stakeholders with your strong, creative vision.
The position is full-time fixed term for two years subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. There is the possibility of further offers of employment subject to funding and need. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.
An attractive remuneration package is available (consisting of a base salary, leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation).
